Hawai'i, October, 2008
These photos are from a business trip to Hawai'i in October, 2008
Tuesday
On Tuesday (October 7, 2008,) I tried again. First I drove to Nuuanu Pali Overlook. This first photo is a view of a nearby mountain, with the clouds still shrouding the peak.

Here are a couple of photos from the overlook:

Looking toward Honolulu/Waikiki:

Then I drove up to the North Shore, hoping to see some of the big breakers I had heard about. However, I guess it was too early in the season because the areas where the big ones should have been were completely flat, with no breaking waves at all. However, I did get some nice photos along the way. Here are a couple of the photos:

I stopped at the North Shore Marketplace in the town of Hale'iwa and had some great fish and chips at the Breakers Restaurant and Bar. Here are a couple of friends I met there:

Then I drove back along the coast toward the blowhole that I visited yesterday. Before I got to the blowhole, I stopped and took the next three photos at a viewing area near the lighthouse:

Waves breaking on the rocks:

Some kind of crab:

This next photo was taken at the next viewing area down the coast. This photo is looking back along the way I had just come from:

Then I stopped at the Halona Blowhole Lookout, where waves breaking in on the rocks are forced through a natural hole in the rocks. This is the best photo I got of the resulting spray:

Just off shore here was this research vessel. I do not know what they were doing there.

I saw this bird here also:

Then I went into work at about 6:00 pm.
