Hello,
I am trying to book a tour of Italy for my parents for their 35th wedding anniversary. My plan is to book the tour for this June 2002.
Would you recommend this trip to older couples? My parents have never been to Italy, don't speak Italian and have rarely travelled outside the US other than visit relatives. I wanted to give them an-inclusive trip so they could see the best of everything without the worry of how to get around, where to stay, etc. It would also give me great peace of mind to know that they are being well looked after.
Did you find the tour had a good mix of people? I want to make sure that they will meet with other couples around their stage of life. I'm also concerned whether the Best of Italy tour, while wonderful, is set at an exhausting pace.
Finally, I am also trying to decide between the Insight tour and the Trafalgar tour. These are sister companies, and while the Insight tour is pricier, the actual tour seems to be very similar. Did you hear anything that would have set these tours apart?

I cannot help with your last question regarding Insight Tours. Maybe someone at the Trafalgar bulletin bloard can answer that.
The pace of the Best of Italy tour was somewhat hectic, but I wouldn't call it exhausting. There were a few older couples on our tour and they were able to keep up OK. The pace on most of the walking parts of the tour was mostly relaxed, and there were only a couple of times where we had to hurry. Even then, the people who could not walk as fast were able to catch up.
And the mix of people on our tour was great, a good mix of people of all ages (youngest were a couple of young teens traveling with their parents and grandparents.)
There was one older man who had a little trouble getting around, and he did not go on some of the walking tours where things were a little harder than usual, but as long as the tour director is aware of any limitations, then things can be worked around.
