On the Train

Our day trip to Brighton began with a train ride from Victoria Station in London to Brighton. Many of the views we saw reminded us of the movie "Mary Poppins". In other places, the views we saw could have been back home in New England.

Hannington's
Hannington's Store is a very large store in Brighton, but nothing like Harrad's in London.)

Brighton Piers
Brighton is a summer resort area, and there were few people there when we were there in April of 1995. There are two peirs, but only one is usable. The other is no longer connected to the shore. But the one that is in use contains shops, games, restaurants, and even a small amusement park out at the very end.){kind=link}

Near the beginning of this pier is the aquarium, with an area where you walk under the fish!
The Lanes
An area of Brighton which is very interesting is called "The Lanes". This is an old section of the town with streets that are too narrow for cars, and has become mostly a shopping area, with restaurants also. These photos show portions of one of the many squares in this area.){kind=link}

Also in Brighton is the Royal Pavilion, an 18th century palace with an Arabian feel.
