Week 121 - Buildings

The Theme for this week is "Buildings".

Selected by Tao

I realise this is rather broad subject but it hasn't been covered since "Architecture" was selected by Bugimus back in April or is it June 2003. I always get the dates mixed up in the 04-06-2003 format. This week I do be looking for any photographs of buildings that happen to take your fancy enough to photograph

The Madonna della Steccata (1521-39) in Parma

This is what St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican was originally supposed to look like -- a Greek Cross
They kept changing the design of St. Peter's and finally added the long nave section to turn it into a Latin Cross, which makes it harder to see Michelangelo's magnificent dome

This is Fortezza Medicea, one of the mightiest Renaissance strongholds in Italy, located in Volterra in the Parco Archeologico (Archeological Park)

The Rocca Vecchia (Old Castle) at the east end was built in the 14th century, the Rocca Nuova (New Castle) was built in 1472-75 for Lorenzo de' Médici
It is currently being used as a prison, so you can't go inside
