Rocca delle Macie Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, a medieval village in Chianti - owned by the Rocca della Macie Winery - has been meticulously restored and given a new lease of life as the 'Relais Riserva di Fizzano'. The restoration was supervised by Fabio Zingarelli and Lucia Peretti of the "Archiquattro" Studio in Rome, who succeeded not only in making the most of the existing shells of the buildings, but also in ensuring that the farmhouses offer the guests the highest levels of hospitality so as they can relax in complete comfort. Situated at the summit of a gently-sloping hill at an altitude of around 300 metres, the farmhouse complex consists of six buildings, including self-contained apartments, a cooking area, a restaurant and a small chapel.
Terreno - A Vineyard in the heart of Tuscany The Terreno Estate is situated in the heart of Tuscany in the Chianti Classico district. Since 1988, the Ruhne family from Stockholm run the estate. Terreno stretches to about 150 hectares of which the vineyard constitutes around 25 hectares. Terreno produce include red and white wines, Grappa, Vin Santo and an outstanding olive oil. The Sangiovese grape, so typical for the region, is the main ingredient in our red wines. Three of these reds are classed D.O.C.G. and can be obtained a.o. through the Swedish wine monopoly, Systembolaget. Tuscany is beautiful and deserves more than a dash through it - one of its qualities is the pace of life, the small villages, the strange festivals (mushroom festival, pasta festival - even a poverty festival, when everybody gets together for a dance and a bowl of hot bread and water - with a cabbage leaf if you're lucky!). There are so many places beyond the named places - below Siena, for example, there are two thermal baths - Bagno Vignoni, with its enormous medieval pool, and Bagni di Petriolo, hot pools by a river, where people go after a party and lie in the pools at two in the morning, steam rising around you as you gaze at the stars. Near San Gimignano there is an abandoned medieval village in the woods, and Volterra is nearby, an ancient etruscan gem now a medieval town contained on its flattopped hill, the profile marked by the enormous buttresses of the old fortress.
Tip: from KarinK: I have been to Verrazzano a few times with clients and it is always a good time! Really it is a fun trip. The only problem is you need a car to get there. It is just outside of Greve in Chianti.
