Isodore Bartolai and his family made small batches of wine from carefully selected hand picked grapes from the family vineyard. Fermented and aged in oak barrels in a hillside cave, Bartolai wines were born. "Chief" brought his skills and technique to the Cork Lane section of Pittston Twp., passing on his craft on to our father Albert. Each fall wine was made at the family homestead using a hand made wine press. The wine was stored in a wine cellar dug out of solid rock. Albert then passed on the family traditions to his son Albert Jr., who made wine with our cousins in the same way our grandfather did. My brother Vince and I got involved soon after. A family dinner of "polenta on the board" marks the end of the years wine making season. Today the fourth generation of winemakers are involved in the process of making wine in the same way their fathers, grandfather, and great grandfather did. The tradition continues. Bartolai Family wines have won numerous medals and awards, both locally and nationally. We hope you enjoy our wines and olive oils. We are truly honored to share with you our passion of winemaking.

  The Castle of Verrazzano is located on a hilltop in the Chianti Classico area, the first grape growing and wine producing area in the world to be determined by an official proclamation, made by the Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici in 1716. The Castle is a late-Renaissance settlement built around a tower of the XI century. The historical cellar still preserves its wines and is a place of attraction for visitors. Life at the Castle continues through centuries, seasons and different times of the day. At Castello di Verrazzano it is possible, with several kind of programmes, to take guided tours of the historical but still working cellars. During the visit, strolling in the late-Reinassance gardens of the Villa, you will discover the great history of the Navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano and have the chance to see the wild boar bred in the surrounding woods. The tours are always completed with a guided tasting of classic wines, extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Vin Santo (Holy Wine) together with the traditional almond biscuits. The Vendita Diretta on Road SS 222 is regularly open every day for tastings and purchases, 10.00am-1.00pm and 2.00pm-5.00pm. (Sundays and holidays 10.00am-1.00pm and 3.00pm-5.00pm). The Vendita Diretta will be closed from January 7th until February 28th 2010. Wine tours take place even when the Vendita Diretta is closed.

• Les Vins de Bellet
  The vineyard of Bellet is surely one of the oldest in France; it may have originated as far back as the arrival here of Phocean Greeks from Marseille. The vineyard's prosperity peaked in the early 19th century when it probably covered more than 1000 ha (~2.500 acres). It has lived through severe hardships. But in 1941 the courage and determination of the local wine-growers, always fiercely loyal to their product, was rewarded when the wines of Bellet were granted AOC (Appelation d'Origine Contrôlée) status.

  The Sienese district, to which Montalcino belongs is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in the world. The soils are formed of geological strata from the tertiary, eocene and pliocene eras characterised by calcareous and ferrous clay with moderate areas of sand and gravel. Consequently the terrain is in places lean, in other vigorous but brings forth excellent wines and olive soils. By nature these soils, aided by the very sunny and protected microclimate, produce grapes which yield powerful wines but which are nevertheless delicate in flavour, aroma, perfume and appeal. The grape variety is exclusively "Sangiovese" with which BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO and ROSSO DI MONTALCINO, are produced. Very long ago, even before these illustrious wine were produced, the "IL GALAMPIO" farm made a very special red wine from the same vine as the present day Brunello, renowned and appreciated throughout Tuscany and beyond for its full, refined, harmonious flavour and rich, intense perfume. More recently, when MARCHESATO DEGLI ALERAMICI replanted their vineyards, to produce Brunello, they decided to leave a part of the old vineyard in order to keep in production the glorious "GALAMPIO ROSSO". The wine, known by its name since its birth, is still produced in small quantities and matured in oak casks for at least two years.

  The Terreno Estate is situated in the heart of Tuscany in the Chianti Classico district. Since 1988, the Ruhne family from Stockholm run the estate. Terreno stretches to about 150 hectares of which the vineyard constitutes around 25 hectares. Terreno produce include red and white wines, Grappa, Vin Santo and an outstanding olive oil. The Sangiovese grape, so typical for the region, is the main ingredient in our red wines. Three of these reds are classed D.O.C.G. and can be obtained a.o. through the Swedish wine monopoly, Systembolaget. But there are many more fine producers to discover. The types of DOC wines to be tasted are Orcia Rosso, Orcia Novello, Orcia Bianco and Orcia Vinsanto. The first on the list must be a minimum of 60% Sangiovese grape. The other 40% must be authorised and cannot be aromatic.
