The Telegraph has posted a slideshow about historic cafes in Europe, including some famous cafes as well as some not so well known, and even one that I have been to: Da Florian in Venice.

One of Rome’s most atmospheric cafes, the Caffè della Pace, is in danger of being closed down. As a heritage association launches a campaign to keep the Caffe della Pace open, we look at other historic institutions across Europe that are still open for business…

CT Has 5 of America’s 101 Best Pizzas

Pizza houses in Old Saybrook, Stamford and New Haven appear on the list of 101 Best Pizzas in America as determined by The Daily Meal.

The number one pizza in America is from Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria in New Haven. They also have stores in Manchester, West Hartford, Danbury and at the Mohegan Sun casino.

After immigrating to the United States in 1909 at the age of 16 from Italy, Frank Pepe took odd jobs before opening his restaurant. Pepe opened his doors in Wooster Square in New Haven, Conn., in 1925, offering classic Napoletana-style pizza

Belgium Itinerary - Chimay

Information has been added to the portion of the “Belgian Itinerary — Breweries and History” page, mainly regarding Chimay Cheeses.

The monks from the abbey oversee the production of the cheese dairy even though it is outside the abbey walls. The semi-hard cheeses, some of which are rinsed with beer, are made as they were 150 years ago, although made with a more consistent quality of milk. Beer extract is added to the milk and the taste of the beer shines through.

Want to find out which restaurants are open in Rome in August, when most people are on holiday and many stores and restaurants are closed? What better way than from someone who lives there?From the blog:

Traditionally, much of Rome shuts down in August. (Thank Emperor Augustus for that). That’s less the case every year, with businesses trying to stay open for more of the summer, thanks to a little something known as the economic crisis. Even so, lots of independent stores and restaurants still close for much of August. And, when it comes to dining, that includes some of the best spots.
